The Field Guide: ★★★★The Seeing Stone: ★★★★★This was another buddy read with my third-grader for a book report. She gave it "four and a half stars."She liked the Phooka, which is a monkey rabbit type faery, who speaks in riddles. And then meeting the elves was cool, although they are very tricksy. There was even a unicorn! The kids go to see their Great-Aunt Lucinda in a hospital. People think she is crazy because she sees faeries and ate their food, so regular food now tastes like ash. Yet another fun adventure with Jared, Simon, and Mallory as they explore more of the faerie world. They meet their aunt Lucinda Spiderwick, hoping to find answers, but things might be more of a mystery than ever. I read this book with my son as part of his summer reading, and I asked him to describe the book for my review. He responded that this is a book that is difficult to describe. He liked the mystery, and really enjoyed how the whimsical illustrations supported elements of the narrative. He found this book (number 3 of 5) to be interesting because of the mysteries that are introduced: The reader is finally introduced to Aunt Lucinda and the Wood Elves make their first appearance. There is less
Still re-reading and re-living my childhood.
