I consider The Silver Brumby to be the second book that I ever read. My first book was Blinky Bill, I was part way through it when I considered reading The Silver Brumby, but I was torn between wanting to read it and the fear of starting it, since it was only my second book. So my mother sat and read the first chapter to me. Then she had to go cook telling me she would read me the rest later. So there I sat, waiting, and waiting, and finaly I picked up the book and read it myself, and absalutly loved it. The story is about the beautiful silver Brumby Thowra, born to the wise mere Bel Bel who because of his colouring will be haunted by the stock men and envied by other stallions. We followe his life from the very moment he is born in the South Ramshead into a spring storm. As Thowra grows we learn about his world and the freedom, joy, and danger that it holds. From growing up in his father's herd, to fighting his adversaries, making a herd of his own, and fulfilling his destiny, the reader is swept up into a story about friendship, loyalty, and kindness. Elyne Mitchell's description of the Blue Mountains and the horses and animals that live there is beautiful and compelling. The horses consider the Cascades to be their home, while also acknowledge the fact that it is only truly understood by the animals that have lived on them for millennia, much like the way that most Australian's have only lived in the southern land for just over two centuries after the English took it from the Kooris. The story of the horses of the Cascade's soon became one of my favourite and most loved peaces of literature. And ever since I have reread the tale of a ghost horse, mountain chases, and loyal friends many times. To haunted Thowra, loyal Storm, wise Bel Bel, the powerful Brolga, Elyne Mitchell, and all of the characters in this book, thank you for giving my childhood something wonderful.

Comment On Appertaining To Books The Silver Brumby / Wild Echoes Ringing (Silver Brumby - Extended #1)
I read this when I was a little girl, and it's also one of my Mum's favourite books. A pretty good horse story! I love the role that the Australian Alps, the Snowy Mountains plays in it. In particular the seasonal changes, they are written beautifully. I was never a horse-mad person, but this book is brilliant at making you appreciate the beauty & power of horses and their role in Australian history.

This novel will always be special to me, I grew up reading this countless times throughout my childhood!

Silver Brumby is the first of the silver brumby series and a must read for all the horse lovers out there.
